City Of Manchester Stadium (home of Wayne Rooney Ltd) Thursday.
A somewhat embarrassing experience here for City fans last night. The normally noisy neighbours were put to shame by visiting fans of Polish Champions, Lech Poznan.
No rousing renditions of 'Blue Moon' or 'The City Is Ours' by the home fans, just a barrage of noise from the visiting Polish fans, who danced, sang, took their shirts off and generated a great deal of unease among the overwhelmed and overawed local wildlife over at Eastlands.
Even as they went 3-1 down in this rather dull Europa League encounter (The poor man's Champion's League) the Polish fans continued to carouse and celebrate, obviously happy to be in Manchester.
City fan, Francis Bellerbee-Doyle commented:
"They were amazing, them fans of theirs. They made a right proper big noise. Surprising really, because usually our lads are the biggest gobshites in the area. I put it down to the vodka, me, I do. Like. And that. Does somefink to the vocal cords apparently. At least that's what Eddie Large told me one afternoon on the old Kippax a few years back."
We tried to coax a Lech Poznan fan to say something really derogatory about City, like how all their fans are bitter bluenoses or something, or criticising them for having banks of empty seats - but he was too busy pouring vodka down his cakehole to be arsed.
For the record, City ran out winners by 3-1, courtesy of an Adebayor hat-trick.
But for city, this game will be remembered as: "The Silence Of The Fans."
More as we get it.
