After admitting that Arsenal will end their fifth season in a row without winning so much as a pissing contest, their manager, Arsene Wenger has suggested that the club should follow the example of other unsuccessful clubs, like Liverpool.
"I really admire Rafa's tactics" Wenger said, standing outside a pawn shop in North london. " The way he engineered an early exit from the Champions League in order to get to the semi-finals of the Europa League was a stroke of genius."
Pausing briefly to read about the thirty eighth player Manchester City have signed in the last 5 days, he continued:
"And to then make sure that they finish sixth this season in order to qualify again for the Europa League really is a fantastic strategy. Next season, I am hoping that Arsenal will qualify for the LDV Vans Trophy, we might has chance at that level!"
Wenger was then asked by a 12 year old Arsenal fan whether he intended to strengthen the squad for next season, Wenger trotted out the usual twaddle about youth and potential before adding " I might try and sign someone who is not French, is over five foot six, weighs more than five stone and doesn't have legs made of papier mache"
