Sol Campbell, the former Arsenal, Portsmouth and England defender, who signed for League Two side Notts County on a 5-year deal in August, has left the Meadow Lane outfit by 'mutual consent' after just one game.
Rumours are rife that the player may have made an abnormal advance on one of the Magpies players.
Campbell left Portsmouth, where he earned a reported £40,000-a-week, at the end of last season, and teamed-up once more with former national team coach Sven Goran Eriksson. His debut in the 2-1 defeat at Morecambe on Saturday, however, also turned out to be his final game for County.
One player, who wished to remain nameless, told somebody, but not me:
"I was in the shower after the match, and I felt something touch my arse. When I turned around, Sol Campbell wasn't down on his knees looking suspicious*."
Another County player said that, after he had read on the internet that Campbell 'liked the colour pink', he took the extraordinary precaution of showering with his kit and boots still on.
County executive chairman, Peter Trembling told the BBC:
"Sol seems to have one eye on the World Cup, and the other somewhere else."
Tonight, Campbell's agent says the player is considering an offer from Brighton.
