London - New England cricket Captain Kevin Pietersen claims that South African players can win the next Ashes series against Australia. Pietersen, born in Natal, says that he will rebuild the England squad with South African born players. Naturally, Johannesburg born Andrew Strauss will remain as opening batsman. Recalls are likely for Allan Lamb, Robin Smith and even Sir Basil D'Olivera.
There could also be a recall for Graeme Hick, although born in Zimbabwe, there are now more Zimbabweans living in South Africa. "That makes Graeme a South African really and therefore qualifys him to play for England", said Pietersen.
Moves are also being made to bring Shaun Pollock out of retirement on the grounds that his surname is the same as a Glasgow surburb and that makes him British.
The ECB were unavailable to comment on Pietersen's plans.
