Cricket entrepreneur Kevin Pietersen has come up with another wonder stroke in his latest attempt to change the face of cricket. The pot shot is where, as Pietersen puts it, the batsmen uses his bat "as if it were a snooker cue".
At today's official launch, Pietersen was in a buoyant mood- arriving to a frenzy of media activity. He seemed to be giving little secrets away prior to his big revelation but as he stepped out in full cricket whites, he was noticed rather bizarrely to be wearing a bow tie.
As he took guard, Pietersen sunk to his knees, lowered his head and began to hold his bat with both hands. He then, somewhat theatrically exclaimed "quiet please!". County no-hoper Ian Salisbury then delivered one of his trademark 'pie deliveries' and much to the delight of the assembled crowd it was quite literally potted away to the boundary by Pietersen.
In an interview after the big launch, Pietersen insisted that this was no gimmick and that he had genuine plans to use it against some of the top bowlers in the world. The ICCs backing has come with a stern warning that any chalk seen being applied to the bat will result in a large fine.
