After the sudden resignation of Fabio Capello, the English Football Association are casting the net very wide indeed to search for the next England manager. They have said they would prefer the next coach to be English, but he doesn't necessarily need to know much about football.
The most important characteristic required for an England manager is that he is able to shout very loudly at the players. This has led bookies to place Brian Blessed as one of the favourites to get the job. No doubt he would be able to give the players the "hairdryer treatment" before a match. He would also be useful as one of his best known phrases from the film Flash Gordon could be used to give instructions - "Squadron, dive!"
