I was going through my old Lou Reed records, and thought, “If only Lou were still alive, he could write a song of protest to fight da power, instead of a bunch of lollypop girls and KPOP boys singing about wrecking balls and how cute boys and/or girls are and how he loved you but then he betrayed you with your best friend … gawd – enough – those songs were been written before your grandparents were born …
And then I found lyrics inside the sleeve (for the millenials, look it up, I ain’t explaining my timeline to your lazy minds) and saw secret lyrics written by Lou, for some reason, possibly relevant in his time – but also in ours. Nothing changes. The Song Remains the Same (Millenials … look it up, that’s what you invented Google for, right, so you didn’t have to strain your arms opening books?)
Here Comes the Man
Here comes the man
The man is come
Wants to cage us up
We wanna have some fun
We got the pens
But he’s got the gun
Speak your mind
One shackle at a time
Words are weapons
They’ll get you more than a fine
Say the wrong word
You’re a terrorist
Let the flag unfurl
We all take a piss
If you criticize
You don’t realize
You beat your breast
And try to protest
You speak your rights
They call it a fight
How much you wanna bet
You’ll be made a target
Thought crime
On a world wide scale
You’re doin’ time
And you can’t get bail
The man in charge
Likes to act large
His fall is small
He’s only two feet tall
Be careful what you say
To friend or foe
All your yesterdays
Is what you show
They tap the lines
And read the mail
They commit no crime
When they tear the veil
