AUSTIN - Country music icon Willie Nelson has confided to his next door neighbor Richmond Mendelbaum that he has finalized a deal to purchase Nuevo Laredo's El Tecolote Marijuana Factory.
The factory located on the banks of the Rio Grande River was first opened in 1969. Since then it has produced over 90 percent of Mexico's total marijuana export into the United States.
El Tecolote, which means the owl, unlike the majority of marijuana factories in Mexico ships the marijuana already made into cigarettes instead of just merely sending the loose marijuana leaves.
Factory CEO Francisco Flamenco said in his broken English, "We ur berry berry happy glad tu hab our beesness boughted up by Meester Weelee Nelson. We hab hear he's musica and eat steel sounds pretty mush damn mucho good for a old cootie (coot) who ease 92-jeers-old.
The purchase price for the 30,000 square foot building was not revealed.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: I called Larry King and asked what he could tell me about the sale of El Tecolote to Willie Nelson. King told me that Nelson agreed to purchase El Tecolote for $12 million, with $9 million down and 60 monthly payments of $50,000 each.]
Nelson was asked by a reporter for The San Antonio News Poker why he would purchase a marijuana factory, and especially one that is located in Mexico.
Willie just grinned that ever-so-sly grin of his and replied that he bought it to use it as a tax write off.
He went on to say that he does not have any intention of having his new company El Tecolote ship even one joint into the U.S.
The man who wrote such hits as "Whiskey River, Tequila Creek," Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Dallas Cowboys," and "Blue Eyes Crying In The Friggin Rain" said that El Tecolote will conduct 100 percent of its business with countries from Central America and South America.
Willie Nelson's latest album is entitled, Willie Nelson Sings The Hits of Lawrence Welk. It is currently available on the Internet through eBay, TwitterTunes, FaceBackwards, YouTub, and at Inagaddadavida.huh.
