Lassie has been scolded this month after leaving a nasty 'mess' on the home rug.
The rug, said to be situated near the hearth of an open fire, represented a reasonable fire risk. Lassie is said to be distraught over the incident which may have endangered human lives.
"To be honest," Lassie's owner said, "It's not the first time it's happened. We're thinking of taking her outside and shooting her in the head - just to get this incident over and done with."
Rumours that arose last week claiming that Lassie was married to boxer, Laddie, are as yet unconfirmed.
