British stand-up comedian and failed pop star, Ricky Gervais, has, in principle, agreed to host the Oscars award ceremony set for 9 February.
Gervais, who has hosted the Golden Globes event five times, had thought he'd done enough at that award ceremony lastn Wednesday, to rule himself out of ever being asked to host ANY award ceremony EVER again.
The witty, sniping, cutting funnyman with his razor-sharp, barbed comments and comic genius, bent his neck and charged headlong into a cavalcade of Hollywood stars and movie moguls, roasting them with insult after insult, laying bare their embarrassing affiliations for all the world to see.
Many smiled nervously as their reputations were torn asunder.
Others tittered, furiously.
It came as something of a surprise, then, on Saturday morning, when Gervais received a call from the Oscars organizers pleading with him to host their farce.
The former Seona Dancing frontman said:
"Host or roast - it's all the same to me."
