Aqua Dots toys (called Bindeez in Australia) produced in China are being recalled after it was discovered that they are coated with gamma hydrozy butyrate, the famous date rape drug. Three Los Angeles children were hospitalized after being found unconscious and blood testing confirmed the presence of the drug. There is no evidence at this time, however, that these children were sexually assaulted.
This follows the recent trends of other Chinese import toy recalls. In August, it was discovered that the tail of "My Angel Pony" contained PCP, also known as angel dust. Early in the summer, marijuana seeds were found in kits for "Barbie's Flower Gardens." In March, toy race cars called "Speed Racers" were found to be coated with the drug speed. Last January, comedian George Carlin came under fire when the modeling clay that came with his book, Napalm and Silly Putty, was found to contain real napalm. The Ronald McDonald's Make A Meal kit mustard bottles have also been found to contain trace amounts of mustard gas, a chemical weapon banned internationally after World War I.
Chinese authorities have no comment and deny that they are trying to hook the children of the English speaking world on drugs or kill them off.
