When remnants of a 20,000-year-old kitchen were discovered recently in China, it was hailed as a major find.
Researchers combed the site, thinking they might come across some leftover Chicken Chow Mein or perhaps some fortune cookies. No luck.
What they DID find, though, was even more amazing: a McDonald's Happy Meal box, containing a few mummified French Fries, a broken toy (looked like it had been a Chinese dragon), some hamburger crumbs, and a scattering of sesame seeds.
Researchers reported that when they opened the Happy Meal box, they heard some muffled, spooky-sounding music. They hired ghostbusters to come in to record the music -- and translate the words. Although the ghostbusters were unable to make out the whole tune, they were able to clearly report on the first eight words: Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles...
Only one research question remains. Those 2-for-1 coupons on the 20,000-year-old Happy Meal box. Have they expired?
