Jenson Button - My Fake Diary
Monday, 28 September 2009
Dear Diary,
It was a hot one this weekend in Singapore - even at night.
What with Crashgate, Flavio Briatore banned for life and sponsors pull out of Renault because they "don't want to be associated with cheats." It seems there has been more going on off the track than on it. Not one to shy away from controversy, Fernando dedicated his Singapore podium place to his disgraced former Renault team boss.
I shouted, "Hey, Teflonso. Good one!" But he just ignored me.
Formula One has to ask itself, is it just a very expensive form of entertainment or a proper sport? There is a whole book on what's wrong with Formula One. It's called 'Bernie's Game' and the history of this episode is typical.
Nelsinho won't be getting a Christmas card from Flavio that's for sure!
NASCAR might be his best bet. They love drivers who crash - even the ones that do it deliberately.
As for the race itself...it's interesting to see the transformation from I-love-the-world Barry Chello to they-made-me-lose Barry Chello. When he finishes in front of me he's Mr. Benificent, when he doesn't, it's anybody and everybody's fault. It's just a shame for him that he overtorqued his gearbox back in Spa and stalled his car in the pit-stop. Both clearly the fault of his car and not him.
Given that cars cannot overtake in Singapore, what kind of race are we in for next year when there is no refuelling and only very rapid tyre stops? Even these can be delayed if other cars cannot pass them.
By the way, did you know 'race car' is 'race car' spelt backwards!
Looking ahead to Japan at the weekend me little buttons. Byeeeeee.
