Pakistan's politicians and grand-standing Ministers of "Word-Twisting" have never failed to seize the opportunity to mock, malign and attempt to manipulate their Indian counterparts. Such bombastic buffoonery is part of their DNA.
In past natural disasters Pak had no qualms about accepting Indian aid - only to rip-off the "Aid from India" tags and pass it off as their own. This again is to be expected from the Pakistani govt-Army-Mullahs. Indian cash donations were also seized by the Army-politicians for their own use and never distributed among the victims.
That is why India's offer of $5 million US dollars has thrown the Pak political establishment into a veritable tizzy. To take or not to take - that is the question.
Now many self-righteous, bleeding heart media liberals in India have accused their govt of 'dithering'. While no doubt hardliners in the country are toying with a sense of ill-placed "schadenfreude".
But seriously - when the entire flood-relief in Pak is being conducted by Army-led militants bent on destroying India why on earth would any nation in its right mind embark on such a masochistic-suicidal move? It's not as if the Pak Army will ever permit the people to think kindly towards its neighbor.
The sad part about all this is innocent people always suffer but for 63 years innocent Pak citizens have suffered because of the failings of its repeated Army-civilian mismanagement - not because of India. And yet Pak has the sheer mendacity to lie to its people by calling India its 'enemy'.
From the moment of its birth Pakistan has behaved deceitfully - first the Army-led 'tribal' invasion to seize an independent Kashmir; then the refusal to abide by the UNSC resolution condition by pulling back troops; its continued support of terror as a state tool; its manipulation of Afghanistan; its arrogant refusal (inability?) to focus on good governance and stop lying to the international community and its de-stabilizing of the region despite its continued promises & obligation as a member of the UN not to allow terrorism on its soil.
Has the incompetent UN been able to hold Pak's heels to the fire? Why should the world be hoodwinked into believing Pak is the victim when it is the perpetrator?
Regardless of what India does Pakistan will behave like an ingrate while foolish Indian op-ed writers continue navel-gazing. So while Western latte-sipping media and other bleeding-heart liberals suffer a guilt complex over what is happening in Pakistan they should take care not to rush to a hasty judgment of other nations based on some misguided sense of concern.
Blame Pakistan where the inmates are running the asylum - that is where it all began in 1947 and that is where it should end. Perhaps one way is to put strict conditions on aid to ensure it goes to the needy and not the ruling elite.
But the world has been down that path many times before...
