Kangaroo meat is low in fat, healthy to eat, and by all accounts, rather tasty - and yet the European Union appear to be all set to ban it.
Why?
Concerns have been raised over hygiene, and the fact that kangaroo hunters bash little joey's heads against the tow bars of their jeeps in what animal rights activists term 'barbaric slaughter of innocent little joeys.'
Kangaroo hunters counter that they conduct their business in a humane fashion, but the EU appear unconvinced.
Apparently, one of the hazards involved in kangaroo meat consumption is that the consumer inexplicably breaks into 'tutting' - like Skippy The Bush Kangaroo - and develops a craving for eucalyptus leaves, and has a tendency to bound about everywhere. As opposed to walking.
"We can't be having this in Europe," MEP Pierre Le Frogge told a Skoob News reporter. "It's all well and good the kangaroo meat being healthy and tasty, but we can't have our citizens tutting, scoffing eucalyptus leaves and bounding about all over the shop. It isn't the European way. And don't even get me started on the stuff they keep in their pockets. We're prepared to tolerate ostrich meat sausages - even though they sometimes lead to consumers running about a lot and sticking their heads down holes, but we have to draw the line somewhere."
More as we get it.
