UK consumers are no longer allowed to buy eggs by the dozen under new laws implemented by the EU. Eggs, fruit, bread, rolls donuts, crumpets and other products must be sold by weight instead of by number. England has been exempt from this confusing EU regulation, unfortunately for the Brits, Parliament voted to end Britain's fight to avoid this nonsense.
These new laws mean that instead of the carton listing how many eggs it contains, it must show the weight of the product inside. The new law does not allow both the weight and the quantity to be displayed.
Some nit wit bureaucrat said, "It is important that information is provided in a way that is meaningful and beneficial to consumers." He looked dumbfounded when asked how the weight is meaningful or beneficial to a consumer trying to bake some cakes with a recipe requiring 12 eggs, not 230grams of egg.
