LONDON: Scientists have made an amazing discovery regarding myrrh - one of the gifts given to the Baby Jesus by the 3 Wise Men. Myrrh, it seems was not just used as an embalming fluid in ancient times. It also played an important role in lowering cholesterol levels if it was added to food.
"The Three Wise Men obviously knew what they were doing back then", said a leading scientist at the World Discovery laboratory. Myrrh - a rust-colored resin is found in several species of the Commiphora & trees which are native to Ethiopia and the Middle East. Myrrh has also been used medicinally to treat nasal congestions, cold-related conditions as well as relieving cuts and burns.
Now a research team has discovered in tests on rodents that levels of "bad" cholesterol fell and levels of "good" cholesterol went up while the rodents were on the diet.
"It would appear that they were not called the Three Wise Men for nothing", another leading scientist concluded.
