France's First Lady Carla Bruni raised eyebrows when she was seen buying a KFC Bargain Bucket on the outskirts of Paris.
Sweeping up to the eaterie in a cavalcade of cars, Bruni stunned on-lookers by heading for the popular restaurant.
Staff claimed they'd had no prior knowledge of the First Lady's visit and say they were gobsmacked when she walked in.
"I nearly fell into the oil" said one. "None of us could believe it. As for what she ordered, it was a massive bucket with a side order of beans."
One unkind wag later commented that the Bargain Bucket might have been a metaphor for a certain part of Bruni's anatomy.
The First Lady is well known for her affairs with wealthy pensioners including Mick Jagger and newsreader Trevor McDonald.
KFC's Breadcrumb Unit said: "We're delighted that Ms Bruni appreciates our chicken. By changing the grease at least three times a year, customers can tear into a hot crispy bird. We even remove the feathers."
It is not known who enjoyed Carla's Bargain Bucket but insiders claim President Sarkozy was seen later that evening with batter around his mouth and a smile on his face.
