Yucatan Peninsula, Central America - Smut, considered by some to be a tasty delicacy, was the official cause of the fall of the Maya people states historian, primitive-culture-hobbyist and thespian Mel Gibson.
"It got pretty awful toward the end," said the Aussie from Peekskill, New York. "The natives were restless and desperate. They devoured anything they could get their smutty hands on."
Corn smut, a fungus affecting maize, was the apparent culprit according to Gibson (who used common materials found in his garage to travel backwards in time).
"They were a proud, cross-eyed People," he continued. "It's too bad they became so self-indulgent and couldn't tear themselves away from the smut."
