WINNIPEG, Manitoba - In a second degree murder trial that is being carefully watched by the pharmaceutical industry, Judge Dick Johnson, urged the jury of five men and two women to continue to weigh the evidence and come to a decision.
Perry Boyd, eighty three years of age is alleged to have choked his eighty two year old wife Martha after sixty four years of marriage. While, Mr. Boyd doesn't deny that his beloved Martha died before his eyes, he insists it was all a tragic accident.
As Mr. Boyd related on the witness stand, "the guys at the Tallywacker Curling Club were telling me I ought to try Viagra, I thought, what the heck, at my age what do I have to lose, plus it might give Martha an extra kick. Well, I took it and it worked -- as advertised but unfortunately Martha's denture adhesive did not work as advertised and well the rest…," sobbed Mr. Boyd.
Legal experts commenting on the case think the jury may be having a hard time on how far down the windpipe must dentures go before a person either blacks out or chokes to death, in which case, could Mr. Boyd have done everything is his power to prevent the tragedy.
As one spectator in the court room commented, "this tragedy doesn't need two people getting the shaft."
