Revisionist historians have claimed that the so-called American Civil War of the 1860s was actually the invasion of a foreign country by the Union and thus illegal under its own Constitution.
Recently leaked top secret documents from the US National Archive show that prior to the invasion by the Union the southern states had declared themselves an independent country to be known as the Confederated States of America (CSA). The documents also show that the CSA had been recognised by Britain and France and possibly other countries.
The leaked documents are said to be part of a very large top secret collection of papers and other material confiscated from various cities by Union troops who overran the CSA states.
Thus the invasion by the Union was an attack on and conquest of a foreign, independent country. As a result the CSA was broken up and the states forced to rejoin the USA.
Why Britain and France did not intervene and support the CSA militarily and politically is not revealed by the documents.
The Director of the National Archive claimed that the 'leaked' documents are forgeries. He went on to say "The FBI is investigating the matter and those responsible will be dealt with to the full extent of the law."
When it was pointed out to the Director that if, as he claims, the documents are forgeries, then there is no leak to investigate, he refused to answer further questions and quickly left the Press Conference.
A historian went on the say "The new evidence makes the Union's claim to be fighting slavery untenable. It is obvious that their only aim was to force the southern states back into the Union." He added "It is also obvious that subsequent US governments have colluded in suppressing any knowledge of their predecessor's illegal actions by gathering all the available material together in one place and making it all top secret." He claimed that the story of the so-called Civil War was concocted to hide the truth from all Americans and the world.
Many residents of southern states received the news with great excitement. Lawyers for the southern states that were once part of the CSA are considering making an appeal against the conquest and annexation of the CSA states as un-Constitutional.
The US Congress, in a combined, emergency sitting last night, labelled the revisionist history as 'Un-American'. A Representative said that the Civil War is an important part of the record of American history and cannot simply be replaced by the truth.
