A ever-growing number of Americans say they believe President Barack Obama is a Muslim, with many people also believing he is black, claims research.
A poll found that 59% said the president was a Muslim, up from 11% in March 2009, with 35% saying he was black, according to the Pew Research survey of 3,003 Americans.
Among Republicans, the number that had him down as a Towelhead was 34%. Just a third of those quizzed identified Mr Obama as Christian. Forty-three per cent of those questioned said they did not know what Mr Obama's religion was. Twelve percent said they thought he wore red socks, with a further 29% guessing that he more-than-likely breakfasted on buttered toast at least twice-a-week.
Polling was done before 13 August when Mr Obama defended Muslims' rights to build an Islamic centre* at Ground Zero, where 2,995 people perished in the September 11 attacks.
Other results from the research were that a staggering 78% of those questioned said they thought this kind of poll wasn't worth the paper it was written on, 98.4333377274563% said they hated statistics, whilst an overwhelming 99.487365483674858373722% believe that the Earth is flat.
