Better watch out for the price of liquor to skyrocket by this fall, many predicting that Kentucky bourbon could go as high as $80.00 per liter or even higher.
Walter Belcher, spokesman for Ezra Brooks agrees with recent statements by the makers of Jim Beam and Maker's Mark that all good liquor is on the way up, including Kentucky bourbon.
"Look at what's going on", stated Belcher. "The economy is in a tailspin and now there's Swine Flu, whenever things get worse, the drinking gets better as people want to forget that they may have a deadly flu bug tomorrow, the house in going to be repossessed or your factory just left for Mexico or China."
"Next", belched Walter, "the governments of both the country and the states get into the act of taxing cigarettes and liquor up the wazzo, there's bad weather for growing grain and still other idiots say we've got to start running our little bitty cars on gasohol. Personally, I think corn for FOOD is a little more important. Especially when there are entire countries in South and Central America that use it for their main food supply."
"Then there's my lazy-ass neighbors here in the south who think they can live mostly off what they grow and hunt plus the government's stimulus package. They don't need cigarettes to smoke either when there's plenty of hidden hemp."
"The latest thing here is selling carbon footprints. I'd like to plant a well-placed footprint on Al Gore's ass. But that's just my opinion."
"One thing we know how to do here at Bardstown is to make good whiskey. If you tax us to death, you are going to have people drinking cheap 'shine and what's THAT going to do to the national health?"
"Wonder what the price of rum is going to go to after 1,000 more pirate raids? hee hee"
"Seriously, look for the good stuff -and that's all that's made legally around here -to go through the roof this fall unless something is changed."
