"What Policy Do You Favor? I Favor It Too!"

DC - Republican Presidential candidate John Sidney McCain III announced an innovative "Regional Immigration Policy Position" strategy today.

"In the Southwest, where immigration is popular, I'm for it," he said, "In the Deep South and Midwest, where immigration is unpopular, I'm against it."

Pundits hailed this as a remarkable innovation in campaigning. "Other presidential candidates have emphasized different issues in different states," said Fox News/White House Spokesman Tony Snow, "But only McCain has the courage to offer different positions on the same issue in different states."

Experts had anticipated McCain's support for the Kennedy-McCain Immigration Bill would be a problem for him, since he had recently announced that he would vote against his own bill.

"Now that's a non-issue," chortled a supporter, "McCain is in favor of Kennedy-McCain when he's visiting Massachusetts, and against it when he's in Texas!"

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
