Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld wrote in an email, which he accidentally sent to NY Times reporter, Rich Brannon that, "I hate these soldiers are in trouble. I wish I'd been there. I'd have raped a few Iraqi men, myself." The note went on to describe in some detail how Rumsfeld wanted to anally assault the prisoners.
Secretary Rumsfeld acknowledged he'd sent the email when asked about it at a press conference. "It was a joke -- in poor taste, I guess. But war is all about poor taste and I guess this is a part of that. We're killing these people you know -- so what if we joke about butt hunching 'em? They do it to each other."
Rumsfeld said later he was referring here to the photo of the prisoners stacked nude atop each other.
When reminded that the men did not pose like that freely the Secretary waved his hand dismissively and said, "ahhh . . . hell . . . this wasn't even supposed to go to Rich . . . Look, it's been a bad week, fellas, okay?"
