The very popular charity walk, The Breast Cancer 3-Day, has participants crossing the finish line 24 hours after their scheduled arrival time. "God, it felt like we were walking for 4 days," said a visibly frustrated walker, Cathy Sanderson, of Coral Gables, Fl.
Experts have confirmed Sanderson's suspicions with a detailed study of the walk using satellite photos and a stop watch. "The watch was key to the study but surprisingly so too were the satellite photos," said Florida State University scientist, Gary Wilson.
"One can also see from the time stamped on the photos that the walkers were active for four days and not the three that walk officials want them to believe," said Wilson.
When using the watch Wilson pushed the 'start' button as soon as the walk began and the 'stop' button as the walk came to an end. The results were staggering.
"I was shocked. The watch read 95.7 hours. One full day longer than the walk advertises," said Wilson.
For Cathy and all the participants that took part in the Tampa, Fl walk the extra day of walking was very hard on the feet. "I don't understand why they would try to squeeze another day out of us. I would have worn different shoes," said Sanderson.
