In a move that surprised many, the American Psychiatric Association and the Church of Scientology announced today that they are merging.
Long known as fierce critics of psychiatry, a spokeswoman for Scientologists said that they were changing their critical focus to the cult of Nephrology, (also known as the medical specialty pertaining to kidney disease) because: "There are more Americans caught in the snare of the cult of nephrology than ever before and it is our solemn duty to free them from so called life-saving practices such as dialysis, transplant and dietary restrictions."
A spokesman for the American Psychiatric Association said that they were pleased to no longer be Scientology's target and wished The American Nephrology Association "the best of luck."
