Just because you have health insurance, don't expect to get medical treatment at your local hospital emergency room.
A new law, passed by both houses of congress, has just been signed into law by President Bush. The new legislation allows medical services providers, including emergency rooms, to refuse medical treatment for persons who don't meet specified credit requirements.
J. Wellington Brantley, president of the American Association of Hospital CEOs, supports the new law. "We've forked over an enormous amount of money to a lot of political campaigns and now it is time to enjoy a little return on our investment." When asked what people who find themselves turned away from the emergency room should do, Wellington quipped "Not my problem."
