A mug produced by the world-famous coffee percolators, Starbucks Coffee, was found to be 'not fit for purpose' when one man decided to use it for the first time yesterday.
Moys Kenwood, 55, gagging for a cup of tea, boiled some water in his kettle, and placed a tea bag in the new mug. He then poured the scalding hot water into the mug, and waited for infusion to take place.
Suddenly, from the direction of the mug, there was a loud crack.
Kenwood could see that water was beginning to seep out of the mug at its base, and, on closer examination, was able to detect a hairline fracture running vertically up (and down) the vessel.
This was not what he'd paid £5 for.
He said:
"I feel let down. Shoddy workmanship. Actually, not by Starbucks, because, although it says 'Starbucks Coffee' on the mug, I didn't buy it from Starbucks. I bought it for 20 Baht at the 20 Baht shop in Bangkok. Still, it's the principle."
