Appearing on Saturday Night Live, three former aides to President Donald Trump, all recently indicted by special prosecutor Robert Mueller, gave a funny if not professional performance with a medley of old songs containing very appropriate lyrics, slightly altered, that called for presidential pardons to prevent long prison sentences. Each agreed to cooperate fully with Mueller but still hope for a complete pardon from Trump.
The trio, disguised to protect their anonymity, combined lines from "Beg Your Pardon," "Rose Garden," and "Have I Stayed Away Too Long?" Here are snippets of the modified lyrics, referring to what they told Mueller:
For things that we said, beg your pardon,
When we pled to the fed, beg your pardon.
If we recant tonight, will we still be your darlin'?
Or are we just a thorn in your rose garden?
Immediately after their performance, Trump tweeted: "They sure could sing for Mueller, but they should have kept their day jobs... with me. Oh, I guess I fired them."
