MACON, Georgia - Many residents of this central Georgia city located on the banks of the Ocmulgee River have expressed that they would favor the city's name being changed from Macon to Mandela.
One lifelong resident Grover P. Dazzle, 68, stated that he has always admired President Nelson Mandela and he tried to pattern himself after the president of South Africa.
Mr. Dazzle stated that he has never really cared for the name Macon because it sounds too much like bacon and he revealed that bacon gives him hives.
He pointed out that his first wife Ethel Sarah Dazzle could never correctly pronounce the town's name and would call it Mah Con instead of the correct pronunciation May Cun.
When he was asked about those individuals who are against changing the name of their town, Dazzle simply said that if they don't like the fact that Macon will become Mandela then they can all just load up their belongings and their kids and move up to Atlanta or Augusta.
