PALO ALTO, Calif.--Ahmed "Salman" Rushdie fought the good fight and won. Then, it's believed, he made them pay.
Rushdie had argued with Facebook that he should be allowed to use his middle name, Salman, because it was the name by which he was known.
At first, Facebook didn't believe Rushdie was who he said he was. Then they said, ok, they believed him, but he'd have to go by his first name, Ahmed.
After bitching on Twitter, Facebook buckled and even issued an apology. Not good enough, it seems.
Facebook users on Tuesday morning were assaulted by waves of pornographic and violent images, pretty much thought to be the work of Rushdie.
"We experienced a coordinated spam attack," said Facebook spokesman Niles Andrews. "We are now in the process of investigating to identify those responsible."
Asked if Facebook had any leads, Andrews replied, "One. Ahmed Rushdie."
