An attempted break-in at a Met mobile hacking unit caravan bears all the hallmarks of high tech skullduggery police sources warned today.
The converted Airstream was parked at a South England holiday campsite when intruders bugged its satellite dish last year, an industrial espionage private eye claimed today.
But the signals receiver was itself part of an elaborate counter-espionage operation that fed juicy tidbits of 'designer crap' crafted to out a notorious traitor.
"We'd always suspected as much," a top MI5 source commented, "ever since our Crop Circle Investigation department head vanished in Glastonbury Festival beer tent circa 1999."
The sting op files may also have been targeted in a recent raft of juvenile cyber attacks linked to the now defunct Tossaz hacking gang.
A 14 year old ringleader, codenamed Codpiece, is believed to be still at large.
