A ring, but not THE ring

It's been claimed by some Royal correspondents, that Prince William carried his mother's engagement ring around in his rucksack for three weeks along with sundry items of soiled underwear before presenting it to his bride-to-be, Kate Middleton.

William and Kate had been holidaying in Kenya in October, and the prince had taken 21 pairs of underwear with him - a clean pair for every day of their trip - in order that he might avoid wearing the same pair twice, which might have put him at risk of getting crabs.

Inside his bag, however, he had also stuffed the ring purloined from Princess Diana's finger as she lay dying in a French tunnel in 1997, with rigormortis beginning to freeze her brittle bones. He offered it to Miss Middleton earlier this week still stinking of his sweaty pubes - the ring, not Kate.

Although you never know.
