Ryde - Isle Of Wight - Noon - It's just been confirmed that Ryde resident, Ken Worthington was intoxicated when he stumbled and fell down a hole, which had been dug earlier in the day by some workmen.
Sources informed us that Mr Worthington drank up to eight pints of lager last night in the Crown Of Thorns public house on Ryde Esplanade. A witness reported seeing Mr Worthington 'weaving about a bit' as he made his way back to his home in Fustercluck Road in the town.
A nosy neighbour told us that she was peeking through the slats in her Venetian blinds at about 10:40 pm last night when she saw Mr Worthington stumble and fall into the hole.
Sources say that Mr Worthington was uninjured. It seems he clambered from the hole 'a little shaken, and cursing' before going home to bed. No medical treatment was required, and Ryde emergency services said that they had no record of the incident.
Further investigations revealed that Ken Worthington is 38.
He left behind a wife and two children when he went to work as usual this morning.
More as we get it.
