Sir Alex Ferguson was reportedly 'spitting feathers' following the arrest of the entire Manchester United squad, staff, and officials at their London hotel in the early hours of the morning.
All parties were detained and interrogated at Paddington Green police station before being released after six hours in custody.
A Met Police spokeswoman told us:
"We were well aware of the fact that this was the Manchester United delegation, but we received a tip off from a usually reliable source informing us that the Manchester United mob were planning a smash and grab operation in the vicinity of the Emirates Stadium sometime this evening. Given that intelligence, we were left with no alternative other than to perform a pre-emptive strike. As it transpires, the Manchester United mob were released without charge, although we believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is to lodge an official complaint."
Sir Alex Ferguson told us:
"It's that bloody Wenger with his mind games again. I'll give the bugger smash and grab."
More as we get it.
