Supporters of Dr Jane Barton, who was not prosecuted for overdosing 92 patients, have demanded that her case is revised following new evidence that it was actually more like 500 patients with a further 200 that can't be proved.
The doctor's followers, calling themselves "Barton’s Babes", feel she is being overlooked as a valid serial killer, "No matter that she topped 700 patients, Shipman still gets more recognition, just because he's male. It's #MeToo all over again."
Barton introduced a culture of opiate overdosing at Gosport hospital over a 10 year period, effectively getting other medical staff including consultants to overdose patients as part of their "care package."
Said one admirer: "She knew she couldnt possibly achieve those sort of numbers alone, so recruited others. I mean, they helped, they didn't question it, they were consultants, so they're culpable, but not an actual evil mastermind serial killer, like her."
"She didn't even get struck off," she told our reporter miserably, "I mean what does this unsung woman have to do to get a break?!"
