The Football League have caved in to pressure from feminists and are set to allocate a place in next season's N'power league 2 to a team of all stars from the women's game.
The feminists, led by the new darling of the left, Millie Headband, have long argued that the cream of the women's game could compete at league level and have now assembled a squad to replace this season's bottom club. Captained by recently divorced I. Getderhausen-Kidd, with Filipino star Maria Westerner as her vice captain, the team have arranged a series of friendly matches against league teams in order to gain vital experience. The expected first XI is
Fay Kinjury; Mia Silibic, Di Vingalot, Ava Hissifit, I. Getderhausen-Kidd (Capt); Dee St-Leggs, Violet Conduct, Wanda Goodwillie, Lil Tigress; Maria Westerner, Shirley Knottreff.
Several past stars for whom a full 90 minutes would now be too much are expected to act as regular substitutes. These include Ann DeGrey, Frances Lee and Nat Lofthouse.
