Roo-ney! Roo-ney! Roo-ney!

Although he may have been absent from the Everton/Manchester United clash at Goodison Park, accused philanderer Wayne Rooney was still the butt of a jolly jape by Everton supporters.

As United lined up for a first half free kick at the Gladwys Street end of the ground, chants of "Roo-ney Roo-ney!" spontaneously erupted as joyful Evertonians bounced a blow-up sex doll around in the crowd.

Prompting some Sky Sports viewers to run a quick rewind of the incident so that they could have another little chuckle.

The match itself was a pulsating affair played on a slick pitch, with Everton storming out of the traps in an attempt to steamroller their Manchester opponents.

United started to get back into the game at around the quarter hour mark, but were rocked as a botched Patrice Evra clearance let Everton in, with Pienaar side footing the Toffees into the lead. As several individual contests developed around the park, notably the one between Vidic and Cahill, United equalised through Fletcher, leaving things all square at half time.

In a thunderous second half, United cruised into a 3-1 lead with goals from Vidic and Berbatov, and as the 90 minute mark approached, United got complacent and took their foot off the gas, seeming happy to play the game out.

But Everton had other ideas, and Goodison erupted in added time as Cahill and Arteta levelled the scores. Even then it wasn't over, as the referee blew for time with Everton pouring forward looking for a last gasp winner, prompting a bad tempered outburst from Everton manager David Moyes.

Final score 3-3

The current whereabouts of the blow-up doll are unknown, but one observer reportedly said that Tim Cahill's sports bag looked considerably larger as he left Goodison Park than it had when he entered it. The ground that is.

Wayne Rooney was unavailable for comment.

More as we get it.
