England striker Wayne Rooney rewarded Fabio Capello's decision to play him in the team's Euro 2012 qualifier in Basle last night despite allegations surrounding his private life, by scoring an early goal to set the Three Lions on their way to a 3-1 victory.
Rooney took to the pitch at St Jakob Park to cries of derision from the Swiss fans who labelled him "Lothario" after his widely-reported shenanigans with 21-year-old prostitute Jennifer Thompson.
Rooney didn't appear to hear them as he added the simplest of touches to Glen Johnson's cross to open the scoring for England. The striker showed no emotion, and didn't celebrate the goal, possibly because his mind was elsewhere, thinking of what a good banging he was going to give Jennifer when he got back to Manchester.
Did you think it was going to be a play on the word 'scores'?
