Vancouver, B.C. Winter Olympics Are History - The Norwegians and Swedes know how to Cross Country ski -- they won 8 of the potential 12 Gold Medals and 16 of the 36 possible. The US Total for Cross Country Skiing was 0-Gold, Zip-Silver, and Nada-Bronze.
How do they do it? Maybe, for starters, the Scandinavians ski 18 miles to grade school and even farther to Middle and High School. Or maybe they practice 12 hours a day in the dark frozen north. Or just maybe they have a competitive advantage because their skis boots and poles have advanced engineering. Or is it the ski wax made in Borkenes, Norway, north of the artic circle? Yes, it is the ski wax that is so zippy -- thanks to a secret ingredient.
Today in Oslo, the ski wax king, Ya-Sure-You-Betcha Ski Wax Company disclosed the secret ingredient -- Ear Wax. The secret is that a small quantity of Human Ear Wax is added during the manufacturing process. And for some reason, not yet scientifically explored, ear wax mixed with regular ski wax creates a super fast ski surface that adapts to differing conditions like wet snow, powder, or ice.
By the next Olympics all competitors will have the same opportunities. Or will the International Olympic Committee rule that the use of ear wax is similar to steroids and ban the substance? Is a buffed up athlete the same as a buffed up piece of athletic equipment? Time will tell.
