Police with riot shields fought to keep back demonstrators outside the Thai FA in Bangkok this afternoon, after it was announced that the former West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough, Bradford City and Sheffield United failure, Bryan Robson was on a short list for the vacant Thai national football team coach job.
The former England captain, 52, is being lined up to succeed Peter Reid, who has decided to join Stoke City as assistant to manager Tony Pulis.
Robson has been out of management since parting company with the Blades in February 2008. His name became synonymous with failure after he took Bradford City down to Football League Two in 2004.
It was thought then that, if Robson had taken charge of Manchester United at the time, the Reds would now have been a non-League club.
Crowds gathered outside the Thai Football Association offices after its boss Worawi Makudi told the Bangkok Post:
"He is interested. I think the chances of him taking the job are more than 50%."
Thousands of Thai football fans have had to put up with daft Scouser Reid and his gum-chewing antics for the best part of a year now, and that experience has taught them that employing jaded English rejects bears no fruit.
One fan, Somsak, Chayapoon, 77, said:
"If Lobson come, we kill him. Go home Lobbo!"
