Portsmouth 0 Arsenal 3 - Dissatisfied with the result, Arsene Wenger today announced that Russian striker Andrey Arshavin is to be fined two week's wages for suggesting to referee Lee Mason that a challenge by Pompey midfielder Sean Davis did not warrant a penalty.
TV pictures clearly show the Russian wagging a finger as the ref awarded a spot kick, suggesting that the ref had got it all wrong.
Unfazed, Nicklas Bendtner converted the spot kick.
Arsene Wenger told the spoof that he could never condone players disputing refereeing decisions, especially when they were given in Arsenal's favour.
"I did see zat," Wenger said. "Ze young Russian boy appeared to cast doubt over the referee's decision. Zat is not ze Arsenal way of doing sings. He will be fined two weeks wages for playing wiz over zealous fairness. I also told ze boy to watch video of Ruud Van Nilstelrooy, ze famous diving Dutchman to see ow it should be done."
Wenger went on to deny reports that a move to Real Madrid was imminent.
"You must be joking. Zey are shite zese days. Worse zan West Brom."
More as we get it.
