London, West - In an astonishing turn of events here this afternoon, Chelsea Football Club have called in the receivers in a move which will reach far beyond the worlds of sport and football.
City analysts report that losses sustained by owner Roman Abramovich in the recession have turned out even worse than the £4.7billion forecast, forcing the Russian oligarch to withdraw his interest in the football club. A spokesman for Abramovich told us:
"Roman's had enough. This team has singularly failed to deliver. Those in the know have seen this day coming for months. He only bought Chelsea as a plaything, and a series of bad investments and returns on the playing and managerial fronts made his mind up for him. He's much more interested in yachts anyway."
We spoke to a Chelsea diehard in the Fulham Road who told us:
"I won't be coming again if we're gonna be shit, like in the old days. Which way is it to the Emirates?"
More as we get it.
