A row broke out today at UEFA headquarters after it was revealed by officials of the club that Manchester United are to field an eleven comprised of aged veterans.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has named several veterans in his squad for their upcoming match with Inter Milan. They include, Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Dennis Irwin, Brian Kidd, Pat Crerand, Brian 'Choccy' McClair, Lou Macari,
Denis Law and Nobby Stiles.
"We see this as cheating the fans," a UEFA spokesman told theSpoof.com. "The paying customer wants to see Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs, Berbatov, Evra, and so on. Not some doddery old veterans. We're checking the legality of this move with our lawyers."
Manchester United issued the following statement:
"The manager of Manchester United Football Club considers strength in depth and squad rotation to be of paramount importance in a competition of such prestige as the UEFA Champion's League. The club backs the manager all the way."
When asked to comment, Eric Cantona, the 'King' of Old Trafford told us:
"When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because sardines are being thrown into the sea."
