Hull City manager Phil Brown has reluctantly conceded that, in the wake of his side's 2-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers this very afternoon, the Tigers' tilt at the Premier League title is over for another season.
Brown spoke to journalists after Sam Allardyce's team had fought a concerted rearguard action to protect their lead, after both sides had been reduced to 10 men, Hull's Dean Marney and Rovers' Morten Gamst Pedersen having been shown the referee's red card in the second half.
Hull haven't won in the League since December 6, but Brown had maintained that a good run could see them overhaul Manchester United and Chelsea. After this latest disappointment though, even he has now been forced to admit that Hull's Premier League challenge is over for another season.
Brown said later:
"You have to win games, and we haven't done that."
