Victoria Pendleton, the world, British and Commonwealth cycling sprint champion, has said that she intends to compete in this summer's Beijing Olympic cycling events in the nude, apart from her helmet.
The 27-year-old pin-up won 2 gold medals at the recent Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester, and has now set her sights on Olympic gold as well. The 'nude gimmick' was the idea of her trainer, Ed Leer.
Leer, who is also Pendleton's biggest fan, said:
"She is clocking some excellent times, really fast, and I reckon if they fully shave her, she can go even quicker!"
Pendleton has been in the news recently for her modelling exploits, and has stunned fashionistas with her stunning looks and poise on the catwalks in Paris and Milan. This has prompted the manufacture of a Victoria Pendleton doll, proceeds from the sale of which, will go towards the 2012 London Olympics Development Fund.
Leer, addressing a news conference on the eve of the team's departure for Beijing, said:
"The best part is when Victoria has finished training and I get to sniff her seat."
