England boss Fabio Capello last night stepped up his plan to talk several former England favourites out of retirement.
Looking to 'bring the best out of Wayne Rooney', Capello identified the 'clever passing' of Paul Scholes as crucial to his plans, and insisted the fact that Scholes would be 43 by the time the next World Cup comes around, "was not important."
Capello claimed the idea came to him when he was watching videos of the 1994 World Cup when Roger Milla scored 17 goals for Cameroon. "He was 60", he said.
With Scholes back on board, Capello says his next targets would inculde former full backs Paul Parker and Kenny Sansom.
Capello said he would also like to bring back Terry Butcher because "I remember when he cut his head in that game, and he wore that headband and was a warrior."
Capello also hopes to lure Kenny Dalglish out of retirement by offering him his first cap. "If Beckham has got a hundred England caps, Kenny deserves at least one."
