Florida State guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes turned in a historic performance last night erupting for 30 points in the final 4:00 minutes of regulation.
"I was just in the zone," said Rathan-Mayes a freshman from Canada, "My teammates had wide open looks under the basket to win and I would pull up a forty-footer. It's not every day you get blinding selfish tunnel vision."
The historic performance brought up the discussion of the greats in history. Ball hog legends like Wilt Chamberlain, Pistol Pete, Gary from my intramural team has had the media buzzing. But one NBA legend has proven he can consistently ignore his teammates, and he was impressed with the FSU guard.
"He's got potential," said Kobe Bryant at Laker practice this morning, "Most people feel that human urge to incorporate others into the game as a way to achieve a goal. In this case winning the game. Not me and not this kid." That's high praise from an NBA legend who has a recorded a historic 8 passes in his Hall of Fame career.
"It remains to be seen if he can alienate his teammates, have distracting off court issues and get a coach fired," Bryant added with a smile, "That's what makes a legend."
