The world of British sport was in shock today when Team GB Olympic Football team boss Stuart Pearce named his squad for the Games and local lad made good David 'OBE' Beckham wasn't on it.
'Pearcy' had to reduce his squad down from 35 to 18, and could only include three overage players - who were Liverpools Craig Bellamy, Manchester City's Micah Richards and Manchester Uniteds Ryan Giggs.
Leytonstone born Beckham took the news in his stride by following in the footsteps of Pearce and announcing he will be filming a new Pizza advert in Stratford's new Westfield Shopping centre to be shown during the games. Pearce appeared in the pizza advert back in 1996 alongside Chrissy Waddle and Gareth Southgate, after all three missed penalties for England in crucial world cup and European championships matches.
Becks already has a string of advertising contracts for pants, fast food, razor blades, sunglasses, nose hair trimmers, dog food, trouser presses, aftershave and perfume. He also plays football part-time for American lower league side LA Galaxy.
England will play Uruguay, Senegal and United Arab Emirates in the group stages beginning on July 26.
